Caique Vidal & Batuque is a unique band that brings infectious energy, riveting dance grooves, and provides an insight to Afro-Brazilian culture which is greatly needed in the music world of today. “Batuque” (pronounced ba-TOO-kee) means to drum and the band delivers an explosive performance that integrates the sounds of percussion with a modern style in entertaining way that engages and rocks the entire audience!

Caique Vidal and Batuque presents the vibrations of African music in the Americas performing the rhythms of samba, reggae, salsa, bachata, pop, rock and Bossa Nova. Batuque provides a show where the audience will enjoy both original songs and hits of the popular Brazilian music.
Batala Durham
Batala Durham
Batala Durham is the newest branch of Batala, an international samba reggae music project based in Salvador de Bahia in northeastern Brazil. The name Batala is a combination of the phrase "bateu lá" meaning "hit there" in Portuguese and Obatalá (Oxalá), the Candomblé deity who is the father of the Orixas and of all humanity.

Batala was founded in Paris in 1997 by Giba Gonçalves, a Bahian percussionist with links to Ilê Aiyê, Olodum, Muzenza, Male Debale, Jimmy Cliff, Tupi Nago, and Kaoma. Batala currently has over 30 groups in 15 countries and a worldwide membership of over 1,000 percussionists.

Led by another Bahia native- Caique Vidal- Batala Durham consists of roughly 20 percussionist from around the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area.
NC Brazilian Arts Project
The NC Brazilian Arts Project was founded in 2016 by Brazilian culture aficionados in the Charlotte and the Triangle. The NC BAP works toward fulfilling their dreams of deepening their knowledge and sharing their passion of Brazilian movement forms such as Samba, Samba Reggae, Afro-Brazilian Dance, Capoeira, Maculelê and percussion.

The NC BAP hopes to promote cultural exchange, joy and discipline for the arts via the offering of quality and professional performances, classes, workshops and events.
